Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Hospital Price Transparency Regulation
In addition to the current federal requirement to post “standard charges” (Chargemaster) as of January 1, 2019, on our hospital’s website, which has been typically defined as the hospital’s standard billed charges. The new CMS Price Transparency Final Rule, with an effective date of January 1, 2021, still includes the Chargemaster information but now requires additional information such as UF Health Flagler Hospital’s payer-specific negotiated rates for 300 “shoppable services”.
Of these services, CMS has identified 70 that must be included if the services are provided by our hospital. In addition to the posting of the “standard charges”, the gross charge, payer-specific negotiated charge, discounted cash price, and the de-identified minimum and maximum negotiated charge must be included.
Overall, the Price Transparency Final Rule aims to promote consumer engagement by requiring hospitals to share their pricing data, which will be essential when shopping for your health care services.
